The 987 Motorsport Fit Kit is designed for those who wish to build a track or race car from the 987.1 Boxster or Cayman with an Audi/VAG 20V power unit and the original 5 Speed and 6 Speed gearbox. Engine control is not specified or provided in this kit - see below for options.

Front Engine Mounting
The front engine mounting comprises of three parts, the upper mount, the tombstone mount and the anti rotation mount all of which are CNC machined from billet aluminium.
These components bolt to the VAG 06A block using the same mounting locations as used by production VAG vehicles and pickup the standard Porsche front engine mount at the original location. No changes or modification to the monocoque are required in any way.

Flywheel
The Audi 20V is fitted with a dual mass flywheel as standard which carries a 220mm clutch. Whilst acceptable for reliable use at lower torque outputs in a front wheel drive application for use at higher engine outputs in a mid engine application a higher performance solution is required.
When engineering this solution reducing weight and common failure points in the flywheel design was also a high priority and as such the flywheel is of a single piece, single mass design and is engineered to carry the 240mm clutch used in the Audi RS4.
The RS4 clutch offers standard road car levels of driveability and increased durability in the Booster application with a manufacturer torque capacity of 325ftlbs, the spline of the friction plate is also directly compatible with that of the 012 986 gearbox and as such the gearbox requires no modification.

Gearbox Mounting And Crossmember Mod Kit
To place the engine and gearbox in the optimum position and take advantage of the opportunity to reduce the centre of gravity the gearbox mounts and cross member must be modified. The modification kit provides laser cut steel weld ins to allow for easy modification of the gearbox mounts on 5 speed cars and bolt in drop mounts for 6 speed cars along with a weld in laser cut and prefolded cross member element that also forms the required cut template. All modified parts are bolt in and no modifications to the monocoque are required in any way.

Coolant Temperature Sensor Kit
The standard coolant temperature sensor fitted to the rear of the cylinder head on the VAG 20V is extremely tall. When fitting the engine to a Boxster this causes a clash against the rear of the engine bay.
The coolant temperature kit includes a low height flying lead coolant temperature sensor which is a direct fit to the standard housing and is calibration identical to the standard sensor. A loom side connector is also included which uses the terminals present on the standard loom to allow fitment of a flat connector - you don’t even need a crimping tool.
For those who don’t wish to mount the coolant temp sensor in the standard position at the rear of the engine bay a relocation kit is available.
PN: BST021
Throttle Body and IAT Extensions
The repower fit kit is designed around the use of a Passat or A4 inlet manifold, when using this manifold with the wiring loom from a Golf/TT/A3 the throttle body and IAT sensor connectors come up short.
Two extensions are supplied which use OEM connectors to allow connection of the Throttle Body and IAT to the standard FWD engine wiring loom.

High Flow Fuel Pump Kit
The standard Boxster fuel pump is suitable for low 300bhp power outputs. To support power outputs up to 500bhp the high flow fuel pump kit includes a 340 litre per hour, high pressure fuel pump mounted in the later 986.2 fuel pump housing, which is directly compatible with the .1 chassis cars. The high flow fuel pump assembly is a straight swap for the original fuel pump assembly and connects to the original tank top / level sensor assembly.

Fastener Kit
The standard gearbox mounting bolts are not compatible with the 06A VAG engine. The fastener kit is supplied with a complete set of gearbox bolts to allow the Porsche specification 5 speed or 6 speed gearbox to bolt to the 06A 20V engine.
In addition all fasteners required to fit the front engine mount assembly and secure the standard Porsche front engine mount are also included.

The Manual
The manual was originally writted for 986 2.5L conversions, however it has a wealth of information that is relevant to 987.1 conversion and includes a suplement to further support these cars.
Engine Control Options
The 987.1 kit is not provided with engine control or wiring information and because of European regulations around emissions system homologation it is provided for motorsport use only. There are several “off the shelf” ECU options for the 987.1 chassis which also support the 20V engine and as such the engine control and wiring element of running at 20V in a 987.1 can be almost plug and play depending on the option chosen.
Syvecs - Produce a plug and play ECU for the Cayman, the 20V engine harness can then be terminated off to suit this ECU.
Renn27 - Produce a DME interface which allows the use of ME7.5 and ME7.5 compatible ECUs with the 987.1
To assist with integration of new or aftermarket ECUs we also provide a basic “get going” CAN .DBC file here which should allow operation of the dash and basic chassis functions in a motorsport applicaiton.
